16 April 2020 – ESL Briefing
Dear Colleagues
There’s just been an announcement that lock down is extended for another 3 weeks, so here’s an opportunity for us to continue to find new ways to provide useful and relevant services remotely.
A massive ‘shout out’ to Hayley this week who has been pushing forward the Bristol WORKS offer in partnership with Boomsatsuma and lots of amazing employers so that young people can continue to access career inspiration and insights, helping them navigate what might otherwise be feeling like an uncertain future.
Check out the new website tab that has gone live – https://www.bristol.works/remotelearning.
Each fortnight there are going to be new resources made available for 3 sectors with video and practical resources and activities to support – with plans underway for accessible content for young Disabled people and those with access requirements too.
So how can the video footage get created when we are all locked in? What I love about this is how Hayley and Boom technician Lyndsay have worked together to record a video this week for employers – this video is a toolkit for how they can create their own film and video content at home! Intisar has turned this into a PDF poster to share alongside the instructional video. Power to you all!!
I was delighted to see that one of the first sectors covered on the new website is construction with resources supported through On Site (well done team!!). It’s also great to see some of our first Visualiser apprentices talking about their work as TV/film production assistants, all developed as part of the Apprenticeship Diversity Hub work that Darren has been leading in partnership with creative media leaders, BAME community organisations and training providers – check out these inspiring young women https://www.bristol.works/remote-film-content .
Well done Hayley, not just for getting so many employers on board but also getting this material out there to educators and young people, spreading the word far and wide through a blog and tweet, as well as an emailed newsletter for all Bristol schools. Fantastic and inspirational stuff!
Best wishes
Jane Taylor
